Well, so far so good with the Echinacea purpurea seedlings and the Stipa arundinacea - they're not exactly romping away but they're strong and they're alive so I'm not complaining!

The Clematis alpina 'Frances Rivis' is still a 'no show' but on the positive side, the seedling of C. viticella 'Betty Corning' that I planted behind R. 'Maigold' by the house is flowering! So pleased, she's such a brilliant Clematis - very strong and generous and pruning group 3 so maintenance is easy. I'll just chop her down to 30cm or so in the late spring. My hope is that her 'past' stems will then be removed just before 'Maigold' struts her stuff in May and then, as now, she'll flower to coincide with the rose's second flush (and any pruning I have to do on 'Maigold').

The Asparagus (at the back in the photo) is also doing well, with roots just beginning to show through the bottom of the pots. I'm going to pot them on one more time before the autumn - probably in mid to late July, and then that should see them through until the spring next year when I can plant them out in the veg beds. I'll prick out the Stipa at the same time (should I be calling it Anemanthele lessoniana?) - I will definitely need my glasses on for that one!
