Attendance at the Hardy Plant Society AGM hosted by the East Yorkshire Group at Bishop Burton College was an excellent reminder to choose the plants that work rather than necessarily the plants you dream of (not that you should or could do that all the time!). Talks by Christopher Grey-Wilson and Andy McIndoe on Poppies and Shrubs respectively left me with notes to ponder and a smile.

Also interesting was walking around the College gardens and getting a glimpse of their tutorial beds and examples of pruning - I thought I was tough but evidently not tough enough - Hybrid Ts and spring flowering shrubs given a really tough talking too.

Kerria japonica kept small and compact and flowering well in late March/ early April
